SPIRITUAL AMPUTEE

SPIRITUAL AMPUTEE

“For the body is not one member, but many” (1 Cor. 12:14). Every congregation is made of many members of the Lord’s church. Every member is important to the body. Just as our bodies would have more difficulty functioning without a part of the body even so a congregation without a part of its members has a more difficult time accomplishing its work. The writer of Corinthians continues in the chapter by writing, “If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body” (1 Cor. 12:15)?

Consider the value of the big toe. The military will reject you if your big toe is missing. Note the following quote, “A nine-toed gait is less efficient, slower and shorter….” Every part of the body is important. Not only is every member valuable to the overall function of the church, each member is of
value to the other members of the body. If I do not fulfill my function as a part of the body then it places an additional burden on the other parts of the body.

Don’t be a spiritual amputee. Every person has a part in the work of the Lord and is valuable. When the church sets out to accomplish its work will we all do our part? Remember the words of the Apostle Paul, “Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular (1 Cor. 12:27). The end result of each member doing his/her work is a church that is being built up and growing. (Eph. 4:11-16).
