Happiness cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, yet it is within the reach of each person. Throughout the Sermon on the Mount, Christ speaks of the beatitudes which began with the word “blessed” (Mt. 5:1-11).
When looking further at the word “blessed” we see that the word can mean “happy.” The Lord wants you to be happy. Christ says, “Rejoice, and be ye exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for persecuted they the prophets which were before you” (Mt.5:12).
Happiness comes from obedience to the Lord and continuing to be like him (Psa.144:15; Acts 8:39). Happiness does not depend upon material things (Lk.12:15; Phil.4:11). All people want happiness in life, but you are the answer to the question of, is your life going to be happy?
