The Bible says, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19). We read that passage but, oh how hard it is for us to believe it.
Paul says that God will supply all of our need. What about this passage, “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread” (Ps.37:25).
Here is another, “Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days” (Ecc. 11:1). We can continue with Paul’s words to the Corinthians, “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully” (2 Cor. 9:6). With these scriptures in mind let’s get to the point.
This is December of 2014. In December of 2013 gasoline prices were approximately $3.59 a gallon. Then, and previous to that time, members of the church would comment, when being encouraged to give liberally, “the price of gasoline is so high it cost me almost $15.00 per week more to go to work.
That is $60.00 a month! With prices so high on everything it limits
us as to what we can do financially.” Of course, the Lord, in these situations is always put first. He is the first one we cut in our family budget when it has to be cut.
In December of 2014 the average price of gas per gallon in Georgia is $2.60. Wow! A difference of a dollar. Now this year we have an extra $15.00 per week, or $60.00 for the month.
Question, what are you doing with that dollar? Or that $15.00 each week? What if every family took that saving in gasoline and gave just half of it back to the Lord on the Lord’s day can you imagine what it would mean for the cause of Christ? If you have fifty families in your congregation that means an additional $375.00 per week to do the work of the Lord. If
you have seventy five families, that means an additional $562.50.
Isn’t it wonderful that God has caused the price of gas to go down so that we can contribute more to His work and the preaching of the gospel? You know, He could cause it to go back up.
