TWO VOTES

TWO VOTES

Two votes probably won’t matter but who knows. There is a runoff election in Douglas County on August 21st for State Representative. Janet and I didn’t know it because we haven’t paid attention to the election. However, that changed last week when a person knocked on our door representing one of the candidates. He was asking us to vote for a certain candidate. His coming to our door did two things. One, it made us aware that there was a runoff election and secondly, he made us aware of one of the candidates. Guess what? We went to the court house and voted early (we will be out of town on the day of the election) for that candidate. He got two votes because someone knocked on our door.

But door knocking doesn’t work! So we are told. Really? It did for this candidate. What about door knocking for the cause of Christ. We have the Great Commission which teaches us to “Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mk. 16:15). According to Luke “A certain man made a great supper, and bade many” (Lk. 14:16). However, “…They all with one consent began to make excuse…And the Lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled” (Lk. 14:12-24). The Lord said, “Go door knock”.

Yes, door knocking is laborious work. Yes, it takes time. Yes, there are a lot of people not at home but door knocking does one thing. It reminds people that you are in the community. It reminds people that you are interested.

Recently, a lady stopped in the drive area at McDonald’s, rolled down her window and offered me a Watchtower Magazine. I declined but she was literally out in the highways and byways. Have we become so sophisticated and up town that we are afraid that we will be compared to “them”?

Door knocking works. If you knocked a thousand doors and saved one soul would it be worth it? Sure. Those of us around Lithia Springs are reminded of it every time we see Sis. Shirley Adamson.

There are many ways to fulfill the great commission. We must use every method to go into all the world and preach the gospel.
