“The Shutdown”
The government shutdown! Wow! “Since 1976, when the current budget and appropriations process was enacted, there have been 19 gaps in budget funding, eight of which led to federal employees being furloughed” (Wikipedia). Most people probably don’t care.
God did some shutting down in the Bible. God shutdown the Egyptians in the Red Sea (Ex. 14:26-28). They thought they were going to capture the Children of Israel so they pursued them through the sea but God shut them down. God shut down the Midianites. God used Gideon, 300 men with torches and pitchers and the Midianites helped destroy themselves (Judges 7). God shut down Ananias and Sapphira. They thought they would receive glory for their contribution but they lied and God shut them down (Acts 5). With God’s help, we need to do some shutting down.
We need to shut down Abortion. Millions of innocent children have been slain through the guise of “It’s my body and I can do with it what I please.” The Bible records that God hates those who shed innocent blood (Prov.6:17). Abortion needs to be shut down. Life begins at conception and God declared to Jeremiah, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations” (Jer. 1:5).
We need to shut down immorality. The sanctioning of same sex marriage needs to be shut down. Homosexuality, lesbianism and the worship of the body needs to be shut down (Rom. 1:18-32). The Bible says, “God also gave them up to uncleanness…God gave them up to vile affections…God gave them over to a reprobate mind to do those things which are not convenient” (Rom. 1:24, 26, 28). We need to shut down cohabitation. “Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge” (Heb. 13:4). Hollywood is producing filth and trash and they need shutting down.
We need to shut down false religions. Many folks are on the way to hell simply because they desire the feel-good religion that is being spewed out by the charlatans of today. These false teachers need to be shut down. Paul wrote to Titus and said, “Whose mouths must be stopped” (Titus 1:11). He continued by saying, “…The Cretians are always liars, evil beast, slow bellies” (Titus 1:12).
We need to shut down the Atheist. Do you know what the second largest religious group in America and Europe is today? They are called the “nones.” There are close to 500 million atheists in the world today. Atheism needs to be shutdown. It is sad to know that those who reject the God of the Bible can only look forward to an eternity of damnation (Mt. 25:46; Lk. 16:19-31).
We don’t need a majority vote in Congress but a vote of the people armed with the Word of God.
