There were three young ladies disputing about their hands, as to which were the most beautiful. An old haggard woman passed by and asked for some gift, but all refused her. Another young woman, plain, without any claim of beauty, satisfied her needs. The old woman then said, “It is not the hands that is washed in the brook, nor the hand tainted like the pink berries, nor the hand that is perfumed like the flowers that is the most beautiful, but the hand that gives to the poor.”
As she spoke, her wrinkles were gone, her staff was thrown away, and she stood there, as an angle from heaven. This was only a story, of course, but its judgment is true. The most beautiful hands are those that minister in Christ’s name to the unfortunate.
Galatians 6:10, “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
