SPIRITUAL FOOD

SPIRITUAL FOOD

Taking care of your lawn can be an endless job. Failure to apply pre-emergent weed killer in the spring will ensure a bountiful crop of crab grass. Failure to keep your grass strong and healthy will give weeds a head start and choke out the grass.

Imagine trying to start a new lawn in a weed patch! The Israelites were entering a pagan land—a weed patch of idolatry. God knew their faith would be hard to sustain and give them clear instructions for how to avoid the infiltration of idolatry into their lives. Close alliances change our priorities. They determine what we think about.

Sinning is as easy as letting your lawn go to crab grass and dandelions. We do not need to plant weeds in our lawn; the seed is already there waiting to take over. By the same token, our own selfish desires are there ready to take over if we don’t resist by faith.

Whatever we feed is what grows—in our lawns and in our hearts. Thinking about God and His mighty works, prayerfully walking with Him and studying His wonderful Word grow trust and obedience and love in our hearts and minds. This is the food that keeps us spiritually strong.

Psalm 126:6, New King James Version: “ He who continually goes forth weeping, Bearing seed for sowing, Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, Bringing his sheaves with him.”
