“Isn’t It Amazing?”
Jesus said, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me” (John 5:39). Those to whom Jesus was speaking had access to those Old Testament prophets but refused to study or obey them. Jesus said, “they which testify of me.”
Isn’t it amazing that society today seems to want all kind of information and will believe almost anything regardless of its truthfulness? Folks want labels on almost every food item to tell them what is in it, how many calories it has, how much sugar and salt are in it. In restaurants today they have to put calorie counts etc.
However, when it comes to religion they never search the scriptures. Here are some examples:
Preacher tells them they don’t have to be baptized to be saved. Yet the scriptures say, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” (Mark 16:16). Peter record it like this, “The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 3:21). People demand calorie counts at the restaurant so they don’t die of overweight and then let the preacher tell them to just say the sinner’s prayer and never check out what the Bible says. Isn’t that amazing?
Preacher tells them that God loves them and wants them to have everything they desire but doesn’t teach them what to do to be saved. However, they go to the furniture store and demand evidence that the dresser won’t turn over and kill their child. Yet they never read what Jesus said in the sermon about seeking first the kingdom of God (Mt. 6:33). Isn’t it amazing?
Preacher tells them to come to his church because they will be entertained and happy! We have a great band and hoop-da-la! Just bring your children in here and we’ll have a children’s church, let them hear a rock band and they will leave excited about Je-sus. Yet, they never question any of it as long as they feel good about it. But they will scrutinize the day care center to make sure every license is in place, every worker is qualified, and the food that will be fed their children meets all of the state requirements. Then send healthy, well educated, well connected children out into the world without their having any defense against Satan. The Holy Bible says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Isn’t it amazing?
Preacher tells them it doesn’t matter to what church you belong! But they know that June is National Safety Month. Did you know, “Guardrails are the only method approved that actually prevents falls from occurring.” Folks may know that but they don’t know that there is only one church (Eph. 1:22-23). Isn’t it amazing?
