I’M IN DEBT
I’m in debt! As the expression goes, “up to my eyeballs” in debt. Mortgage payments, car payments, credit card payments, perhaps a personal loan have put me in financial difficulty. Can’t sleep at night, consumed with it in the back of my mind during the day. Family problems are beginning to raise their head because of it. While it may not be this bad for everyone, it is still a very uncomfortable situation. Wham! A billionaire comes along and says “I can help you with that” and makes me an offer. I will help you. Here is the plan. If you will come by my office building at a designated time each week, for some instruction on money management (about an hour and also bring your family), before you leave, I will give you a check that will help you relieve the pressure. What would be your reaction? Would you say, “No thanks, I work all day and I’m tired. The kids need to study, or do house chores. I’m not really into money management. Besides, my parents are going to die in a few years, and they will leave me some money. I think I will just continue to struggle and be miserable. Thanks, but no thanks.”
Would you accept that proposal? If you wanted to get out of debt, you would. You may say, “Are you really going to give me a check to help pay off my bills?” The billionaire says, “Yes.” Wow!
Think about this. You are unhappy, trudging along day by day depressed. “Nobody cares about me.” Everyday seems to be a struggle, rush, rush here and there. Kids have various activities, house chores etc. God comes along and says, “I can help you with that.” I will help you. Here is my plan. Once each week come by my office building (church building) at a designated time (Wednesday night), and when you leave, you will be uplifted. The burden will not seem as great. You will spend time in prayer (James 5:13-16), singing (Eph. 5:19; Col 3:16), and engage in Bible instruction that will help you cope (2 Tim. 2:15; Ps. 119:105). The other folks there have similar problems; but they hug you, shake your hand, pat you on the back, smile at you. Finally, here is a friendly face. All day long it had seemed that every person you saw growled at you. Wednesday night Bible study is like a billionaire giving you financial relief. Many folks look at Wednesday night Bible study as a boring drudgery that elders put people through in order to push us into heaven.
In reality Wednesday night Bible study is an opportunity for me to grow spiritually and to encourage others to grow also. Do you want to have a great week? Attend Wednesday night Bible study
