“IDC”
Texting has changed our communication. Notice some of the abbreviations we use: IDK (I don’t know); FYI (For your information); FAQ (Frequently ask questions); BTW (By the way). I have one, IDC (I don’t care).
Christians sometimes have an IDC attitude toward:
Worship and Bible school attendance really doesn’t matter to me even though scripture teaches us, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching” (Heb. 10:25) but IDC is the real reason. I really just don’t want to be there. I may make it a couple of times during the month, but I just really don’t care.
Giving really doesn’t matter to me even though scripture teaches us, “Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come” (1 Cor. 16:1-2), but IDC. I know churches have budgets, and they have bills to pay and missionaries to support, and they are always trying to get us to give. But I just really don’t care.
Support of the elders really doesn’t matter to me even though scripture teaches us, “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you” (Heb. 13:17), but IDC. They have no authority over me. To be honest about it, I just really don’t care.
All this talk about reading your Bible, praying, door knocking really doesn’t matter to me even though scripture teaches us, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Cor. 15:58), but IDC. To be honest about it, I just really don’t care.
Jesus didn’t take the IDC attitude when it came to my salvation because he gave his life a ransom for me, “Who will have all men to be saved and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time” (1 Tim. 2:4-6).
However, in the Day of Judgment, his attitude will be different when “I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me” ( Proverbs 1:26-28).
