I AM RESOLVED

Some folks make New Year’s resolutions. The King James Version of the Bible only has one listing of the word resolve, which reads, “I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses” (Lk. 16:4). The next closest to it is found in the book of Daniel, which says, “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself” (Daniel 1:8).

The Hebrew translation of the word purposed is, “made up his mind.” We sing the song, I Am Resolved.

I am resolved no longer to linger,
charmed by the world’s delight;
things that are higher, things that are nobler,
these have allured my sight.
I am resolved to go to the Savior,
leaving my sin and strife;
He is the true one; He is the just one,
He has the words of life.
I am resolved, and who will go with me?
Come, friends, without delay;
taught by the Bible, led by the Spirit,
we’ll walk the heavenly way.
[Refrain] I will hasten to Him,
hasten so glad and free;
Jesus, greatest, highest,
I will come to Thee.

You can resolve or make up your mind to do the will of God any day. No need to wait until a New Year, a birthday, or when something special happens. Why not resolve or make up your mind to follow Jesus immediately?
