False Ideas of God

False Ideas of God

Paul passing through the idolatrous city of Athens saw an altar with the inscription TO THE UNKNOWN GOD (Acts 17:23). Some think that God created man then left him on earth without any instruction.

The Bible was given to reveal to man what he must do to obey God’s will (II Tim.3:16-17).  Some think that God is reluctant to save.  We do not need to plead with God to save (I Tim.2:3-4; II Pet.3:9), but have to plead with man to be saved (Acts 2:40).  Some think that God is too good to condemn, but he is too good to condone sin (Isa.59:2; Jn.8:21).

God has done His part to save us (Jn.3:16; Rom.5:8). Man condemns himself (Acts 2:40). Some think that God is like man. Man can hide from man, so he thinks he can hide from God (Gen.3:8). Man deceives man; so he thinks he can deceive God (Acts 5:1-10). Man thinks one religion is as good as another, but God does not (Mt.15:9, 13-14).
