FAKE NEWS

“FAKE NEWS”

We’ve been hearing a lot lately about “fake news.” My limited understanding of fake news is simply news that is fake (incorrect). Fake means, “Something that is intended to look like and be mistaken for something else, esp. a copy made in order to deceive” (Cambridge Dictionary).

News outlets have been accused of producing “fake news.” As a matter of fact, most of us believe very little we hear on the news today because most of it is proven to be incorrect. Will Rogers said it best when he wrote, “It isn’t what we don’t know that gives us trouble, it’s what we know that ain’t so.” However, the denominational world has been producing fake religious information for years. Look at some of the examples:

However, the denominational world has been producing fake religious information for years. Look at some of the examples:

The religious world’s fake news about salvation is that you can be saved by faith only. They quote, “And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house” (Acts 16:31). However, they do not go on to tell you that, “And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway”(Acts 16:32-33). They want you to believe that baptism is not essential to salvation even though the Bible clearly teaches that it is (1 Pet. 3:21).

The religious world’s fake news about worship is “if it feels good do it”. That is why denominational churches have gone completely to entertainment (as well as some of our brethren) for worship. With their bands, praise teams and choral groups in worship it gives you the feeling of satisfaction but not of worship. Jesus said, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). The person leaves the services thinking, “Wow! That was a good concert.” The New Testament teaches that we all are to sing and make melody in our hearts to the Lord (Eph. 5:19). The scriptures do not authorize instruments or special praise teams. Jesus said, “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men” (Mt. 15:8-9).

The religious world’s fake news about morality is that God wants you to be happy. So if being a homosexual, or living together outside marriage, or marrying many times without regard to Matthew nineteen makes you happy then come on in we’ll accept wherever life style you enjoy without repentance (Acts 2:38; Lev. 18:22; 1 Cor. 6:9-11) after all we need your contribution. The only news we need is, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).
