“ELECTION IS OVER…RECOUNTS BEGIN”
This is really not a political article; so read on. The election is over and the coming recount is the
illustration. First look at this passage: “Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will
seek to enter in, and shall not be able. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut
to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us;
and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are” (Lk. 13:24-25). The recount begins.
You spend millions of dollars, you work tirelessly for years and years and everyone says that you
are going to be the winner; and then on the day of the election, you lose. That would be very devastating.
However, someone comes along and says, “This can’t be right. You should have won. Let’s recount
the votes.” Here is the lesson:
You are religious. You work hard in your religion. You devote your life to your religion. Everyone
tells you your religion is right. All of these preachers on television are telling you… “You are winning,
what you are believing is right, listen to us”…BUT death or the judgment comes and you are lost eternally
in a devils hell. Wouldn’t you want a recount? Would you look for ways to get out of that place?
The rich man did. He asked for a drop of water. He wanted to send Lazarus back to his family and say,
“Wait don’t believe all those folks who have told you that you are right” (Acuff’s version of Luke 16:19-
31). The recount doesn’t change the results.
Jesus said, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;
but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord,
have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done
many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that
work iniquity” (Mt. 7:21-23). The recount doesn’t change the results.
Folks have been told that it doesn’t make a difference to what church you belong (Eph. 4:4-7;
Eph. 1:22-23). Folks have been told that you don’t have to be baptized to be saved (Acts 2:38). Folks
have been told that you can worship anyway you desire, as long as, you feel good about it (Jn. 4:24).
When a chosen candidate lost, people cried, wailed, protested, called for a recount, said, “This can’t
be happening.” There is still one church, you still have to be baptized to be saved, and you still must
worship according the Bible. The recount doesn’t change the results.
When the Lord comes again, it will be too late. The Bible is right! The Bible is the guide book (2
Tim. 3:16-17). The scriptures will not be changed to accommodate. The scriptures say, “And these
shall go away into everlasting punishment” (Mt. 25:46). Remember our beginning passage, “Many will
seek to enter and shall not be able” (Lk. 13:24). The recount will not change the results.
For us, the election is not yet over. We still have time to turn to the Bible and not man. Jesus
says, “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Mt. 11:28). You
won’t need a recount.
