EBOLA SCARE
Much is being said and written about the Ebola virus. All kind of safety precautions are being put in place to protect us from this deadly virus. One, in the United States, has died and it is thought that several could have been
infected.
In West Africa the results are far different. Here is a quote from a recent news source, “The current Ebola outbreak, concentrated in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, has resulted in more than 8,300 confirmed and suspected
cases, and at least 4,033 deaths.” The level of concern increases, rightly so, as others become infected. There is a great virus that we should be concerned about that has far more reaching effect, and that is the virus of
sin.
Here are some facts:
All are infected. “There is none righteous, no, not one” (Rom. 3:10) and “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23).
Solomon declared, “For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good,
and sinneth not” (Ecc. 7:20).
It is very contagious. “…Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump” (1 Cor. 5:6).
All kind of safeguards are put in place to avoid the Ebola virus yet rather than putting measures in place to avoid the virus of sin we flaunt it, advertise it, and have parades for it.
The sin virus is deadly. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ
our Lord” (Rom. 6:23).
There is only one cure. The blood of Jesus. “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace” (Eph. 1:7).
That cure is administered in baptism, “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life” (Rom. 6:4).
You can have a relapse. “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning’ ( 2 Pet. 2:20).
There is a cure for the relapse. “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning” (Acts 8:22).
You are not going to avoid the sin virus, but through Jesus you can be cured and remain safe.
