DON’T FAINT!
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Gal. 6:9). What an encouraging verse! Don’t give up! Keep going! Don’t faint! To my knowledge I’ve only fainted twice (physically) in my life time, once as a child after closing the car door on my thumb and the second while preaching for the Bethel Church of Christ (Dunlap, TN) on January 1, 1960. I remember awaking to an argument as to whether my head should be higher than feet or vice versa. This is not about fainting physically but giving up on/in life. Here’s the meaning “lacking courage and spirit: cowardly <faint of heart>” (Webster). Someone said, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” Don’t faint! Why?
The scriptures tell us not to (Gal. 6:9). All scripture is inspired (2 Tim. 3:16-17). Since God said it we know it’s true and if we believe the Bible then we know we are going to reap good. God keeps his promises (Heb. 11:23). Don’t faint!
There is a God in heaven (Dan. 2:28). Not only is there a God in heaven but he controls all things. “…That the Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men” (Dan. 4:17, 25, 32; 5:21). Don’t faint!
God will supply our need. Paul knew so well this message. He gives a description of things that had happened to him (2 Cor. 11:22-33) and yet he wrote, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19). Aren’t we encouraged by the following, “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread” (Ps. 37:25)? If we do his will as he has guided us through his word our God will take care of us. Don’t faint!
God will not leave us or forsake us (Heb. 13:5). The days become difficult and long. Illness and death take their toll in our families. Those we thought would stand by us depart and leave us to suffer and battle alone. Take heart because God is there and he will see us through. Don’t faint!
Remember He is “…The God of all comfort” (2 Cor. 1:3). Don’t faint!
