He realized that the congregation would miss him since he was the only song leader they had, but on the other hand, he would have to walk half a block to catch the bus that ran by the church. Finally, he decided to go, but only because he must lead singing.
While riding the bus, he noticed two people trying hard to make their path through the snow. He recognized the people and knew where they were headed. They were a faithful couple who attended every service of the Church. The man was in his eighties and his wife was in her seventies. Their health was not too good and they didn’t have a car. Money was tough to come by and they only received a little support from the government. Because they couldn’t afford to ride the bus to service, they walked to the church building every Sunday and Wednesday night.
I was sitting in a warm bus, really not wanting to go to service, but felt forced because I was the only song leader, and there, outside in the cold weather, was an older couple who was driven by their love for the Lord to walk to worship services.
This made this member of the Church blush, ashamed of himself and the weak faith and love which he had shown for our Lord. He felt like an evildoer in a court being judged by his own conscience. This older couple without their knowledge and without one word had taught him “A Sermon Never Forgotten.”
Where were you that Sunday when it snowed???
