A Memorial

“A Memorial”

God told Moses, “And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and re-hearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven” (Ex. 17:14). After the Children of Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground, Joshua had them take twelves stones and set them up in Gilgal,

“And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones? Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from be-fore us, until we were gone over: That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever” (Joshua 4:21-24).

A memorial! Write it down! Set up stones! God wanted the Children of Israel to remember what he had done for them. God wants us to remember what he has done for us so he gave us a memorial,

“For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come” (1 Cor. 11:23-26).

Isn’t it interesting that the denominational world doesn’t want to remember this and therefore refuses to take the Lord’s Supper except when they desire. The disciples left us an example, “And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight” (Acts 20:7). Wonder what they did Christmas and Easter? That’s not even mentioned. Taking the Lord’s Supper on these days is not mentioned because they are man-made.

We have a memorial service every first day of the week to remember what the Lord has done for us. Don’t miss it.
